Our history

1853

Michael Spedding bakes his very first batch of brandy snaps, selling them to shows, shops and traders from his Batley bakery.

First Burton’s Biscuits are baked by George Burton.

1895

Paterson's Brand founded by J Paterson in 1895, in the Royal Burgh of Rutherglen manufacturing and selling oatcakes from the back of horse drawn van, expanding the Rutherglen Bakery Between 1914 and 1937.

1897

Fred Ellis Fox (Michael Spedding's son inlaw), takes over the business in 1897, renaming it F E Fox & Co – and that’s where Fox's Biscuits gets its name.

Thomas Fudge's brand is created.

Bee Bee Biscuits Ltd opens a biscuit bakery in Blackpool - the home of Maryland cookies.

1927

Fox's current Batley bakery is created.

1935

Burton's Gold Medal Biscuits is founded by the grandson of George Burton, the baker of the original biscuits in the early 1900's.

1949

Burtons sold to ABF and two further bakeries founded in Llantarnam and Edinburgh baking brands such as Jammie Dodgers, Royal Edinburgh shortbread and Wagon Wheels.

Fox's acquires Parkinson's Biscuits and the Kirkham Bakery is created.

1970

The Arran Mustard Company is founded by a retired police CID officer (Ian Russell) who started making mustard in his own kitchen to sell in his gift shop in Brodick, Isle of Arran.

Paterson's moves bakery to current Livingston operation.

1977

Fox's is sold to Northern Foods Ltd., and over the years new brands are born from the simply delicious Fox’s Crinkle Crunch to decadently fabulous Fox’s Chocolatey Rounds. striving to lovingly bake biscuits that are better than any other.

 Arran Mustard Company becomes Arran Provisions and the original factory built on the Monamore site.

Paterson's acquires the Arran Provisions to Paterson Arran Ltd created.

1998

Dorset Village Bakery Ltd is formed including the brand Thomas Fudge's.

Northern Foods Ltd is restructured with Fox's Biscuits Ltd being sold to 2Sisters Food Group.

2020

Fox's Biscuits is aquired by a Ferrero affiliated company.

Ferrero-related company (CTH Invest SA) acquires Nonni’s Bakery in the US. FBC UK establishes a partnership with Nonni’s.
